When it comes to shopping, quality is everything for me. The feel, the material, the appearance has to, by all means, compliment the Chanel girl in me. However, my budget doesn’t always seem to comprehend this so I have had to, on many occasions, take off my heels and make my way all around town to find these quality garments.
Consequently, after many years of collecting some of the most unique designer items, I have lo and behold bought my way up the thrift Queendom, oh yeah!
Today I will be sharing with you my top 5 secrets to thrifting like a pro.
1. Take your time
Due to the enormous amount of options at a thrift store, the first thing you’ll feel when you walk in will likely be overwhelm. The rows and rows of clothes can be intimidating but if you are prepared to sift through it all, you will find a few items that are worth the hassle.
2. Check for stains and holes
This one seems obvious but an easy miss when you suddenly stumble upon that Tommy Hilfiger top you’ve been looking for for the past 6 months.
If your eyes fail you, your hands might be your saviour. Most of the clothes will be second-hand so this will help you make out the wear in the fabric. Newer clothes tend to have a softer feel. You can also check the stitching to see if it’s still intact.
Someone out there in the World Wide Web is always trying to sell you something so getting online might be a good idea, not to mention the convenience of shopping while lounging in the comfort of your home. I would recommend Facebook because the clothes are usually cheaper and the pages tend to be safer to buy from because you can easily scroll down to check other people’s experiences/ comments on their purchases.
5. Thrift markets
Thrift markets are the buzz right now. The quality might not be as good as in-store buys at times but there is better variety overall because the sellers have, in a way, already picked out the ‘best’ items to include in their stalls. This saves you a lot of time.
That’s it for your thrifting starter kid. Do let me know how your thrift shopping goes.
