Spring Fashion Trends 2019 – (with Mzansi Instagram Looks)

From the streets of Paris to New York fashion week we’ve watched the looks unfold and I’m excited to share the hot fashion trends that are about to hit Mzansi this spring. This season explores patterns and colour like never before and I would be bold as to say that spring/summer fashion 2019 is definitely African inspired.

Yellow is by far the colour of the season. Being a colour that signifies freshness, sunshine, joy and happiness, yellow is without a doubt spring ‘hue-manised’.

Top Tips to Make 2019 Your Year of Great Success

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from 2018 and years passed is that new years resolutions are a rosy, pixie dust road to nowhere. Wishing things into being and writing lists is not enough. We actively have to be in touch with our goals and what we have to do to make them happen.

Mr Benjamin Franklin was right on the money when he said, “By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.” January is fast approaching and it will pass just as quick as it came if we don’t have clear goals and action steps in place.

I want to share 4 important tips that have been a tremendous help to me and will help you tackle 2019 with ease and confidence.

1. Focus on the long game

Short-term planning leads us to feeling like we are going in circles, aimlessly jumping from one project to the other, while long terms goals keep our faith alive. This is the faith necessary to keep us grounded when challenges come up. One of the great advantages of a long-term plan is that it helps in monitoring our progress and aligning our milestones with the bigger objective.

2. Write it down

It’s important to have a daily planner to write the specifics of your course of action. Scope out tasks periodically: quarterly, monthly, weekly and down to daily, this will help you stay on track at all times. You might not have the exact timelines and meetings set yet but it will be

Top 5 Tips to Thrift Like a Boss

When it comes to shopping, quality is everything for me. The feel, the material, the appearance has to, by all means, compliment the Chanel girl in me. However, my budget doesn’t always seem to comprehend this so I have had to, on many occasions, take off my heels and make my way all around town to find these quality garments.

Consequently, after many years of collecting some of the most unique designer items, I have lo and behold bought my way up the thrift Queendom, oh yeah!

Today I will be sharing with you my top 5 secrets to thrifting like a pro.

1. Take your time

Due to the enormous amount of options at a thrift store, the first thing you’ll feel when you walk in will likely be overwhelm. The rows and rows of clothes can be intimidating but if you are prepared to sift through it all, you will find a few items that are worth the hassle.

2. Check for stains and holes

This one seems obvious but an easy miss when you suddenly stumble upon that Tommy Hilfiger top you’ve been looking for for the past 6 months.

3. Touch

If your eyes fail you, your hands might be your saviour. Most of the clothes will be second-hand so this will help you make out the wear in the fabric. Newer clothes tend to have a softer feel. You can also check the stitching to see if it’s still intact.

Protective Hairstyles for Preventing Breakage This Winter

Winter time can be a tough period on our hair and protective styles can be the best way to reduce damage.

My protective style of choice this season is box braids. As we know, box braids tend to be very heavy and can be detrimental to the hairline. So how do we prevent this? The key to box braids that don’t break or uproot your hair is the size and the tightness of the braid.
I wear my braids loose most of the time to minimise strain on the hairline. Tying your braids into a ponytail is the most damaging to your hair. What I’d recommend is a top-of-the-head bun (as demonstrated in the inset image).

Other styles I would highly recommended are:
• Closed sew-in weaves
• Medium-sized cornrows

Remember to moisturise the hair while it is in the protective style. For easy access and even distribution of moisture I recommend using a spritzer infused with all your favourite oils.

Youth Identity & Building Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is a skill all of us need to develop. A positive life view is a crucial step to attaining the things we desire in our lives. The most successful people in the world are not necessarily the most skilled or talented, but it’s those who have an unwavering believe in themselves.

It’s this confidence that inspires and creates young leaders like Aaliyah Nzimande, a young woman who is going for her dreams and inspiring others to do the same. For her, it’s all about identity and unity of the sexes. Watch this inspirational young woman talk about the importance of building self-confidence on her journey of success. 5 Hacks for Perfectly Even Skin

As Africans we are prone to discolouration and uneven skin tone which can really affect our confidence. I was a typical example and my breakouts were as sporadic as PE rain. After years of trial and error I found a simple regimen that works.

I highly recommend sun protection and lemon water. As far as the products go, everyone’s skin is different so I cant say with certainty that they will work for you but they have certainly done the job for me. It’s always a good idea to visit a dermatologist for a recurring skin problem.  I hope this list helps.

1.Cleanse and Exfoliate – Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub
2.Toner – Nivea Daily Essentials Refreshing Toner
3.Makeup Break – give your skin time to breathe for a week a week or two
4.Sun Protection – Nivea Sun Protect and Refresh spray
5.Lemon water

Good luck bunnies! Beautiful, even and radiant skin is possible.
